Tripura Police today arrested five drug peddlers including two women and seized 12 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) at Dharmanagar Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT).

The police stated that they received information. On the basis of the information, police personnel from Dharmanagar police station rushed to the Dharmanagar Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) and arrested five drug peddlers red handed. During a meticulous search of their luggage police found 12 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) packed in three packets from their possession.

The five arrested have been identified as Usman Ali, Shadeb Ali, Sadek Ali, Salama Khatun, Fatema Begum  all residents of Assam.

Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated cannabis (ganja) in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 3 lakh.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the arrested drug peddlers.

However, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called on Tripura to get rid of drugs. Police are seizing crores worth of heroin, brown sugar, cannabis (ganja) and arresting traffickers, but the real kingpins remain out of reach, which is why the state is not moving towards a drug-free state despite so many anti-drug campaigns.
