The Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya weekly Express which runs between Mumbai and Guwahati has been extended up to Agartala.

Speaking to the reporters at Secretariat on Saturday, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury expressed sincere thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw for this direct train service between Agartala and Mumbai.

The Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya weekly express will begin operations before Durga Puja. This express train will depart from Agartala every Thursday at 6 AM and reach Lokmanya Tilak Station in Mumbai at 4:15 PM on Saturday. This express train will again depart from Mumbai at 7:50 am on Sunday and reach Agartala at 7:50 pm on Tuesday. The journey will take 2 days and 7 hours, the minister said.

The express train will stop at a total of 7 stations between Agartala and Guwahati on this route. These 7 stations are Ambassa, Dharmanagar, Badarpur, New Haflong, Lumding, Hojai and Chaparmukh. The transport minister also said that the people of the state will be benefited in terms of job seekers, patients, students, tourists, businessmen etc, he added.

The minister also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given importance to strengthening the communication system across the country. After 2018, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the HIRA model. “Tripura is strengthening and expanding its connectivity on the basis of the HIRA model”, he added.

The state government is also focusing on an improved connectivity system to build a better Tripura. He said that as a result of the development of the state’s rail connectivity system, 11 express trains from the state are currently running between different states of the country. Also five local trains are operational in the state, he added.

Transport Secretary UK Chakma, Additional Secretary Subrata Chowdhury and others were present.
