The repairing work of the Kamalasagar-Tarapur border haat located in the Sepahijala district of Tripura is likely to be completed within September 30  and is expected to reopen by the end of October, which was shut during the Covid-19 pandemic, said a official.

The repair works of the pipeline is expected to be completed within one week. Apart from that all the other repair works including repairing of sheds, fences and electricity is completed, the official added.

A total of Rs 13 lakh has been sanctioned for the repair work of the Kamalasagar-Tarapur border haat. Once the repair jobs are completed, a joint inspection will be conducted to take a final call on the reopening of the border haat, the official added.

Once reopened, the Tarapur Border Haat will provide a platform for registered traders from nearby villages of India and Bangladesh to engage in cross-border trade. The haat will accommodate 25 traders from each country every Sunday, fostering economic cooperation and enhancing people-to-people connections between the two nations.

Border haats are weekly markets along the India-Bangladesh border where vendors from both countries sell their products. In Tripura, there are two border haats which are the Srinagar border haat situated in the South district of Tripura, and the Kamalasagar-Tarapur border haat located in the Sepahijala district.
