Section 144 has been imposed within 3 km of India-Bangladesh border area in Unakoti District to maintain peace, stability and law and order. Unakoti District District Magistrate & Collector Tarit Kanti Chakma issued this order on October 1, 2023 and this order will remain in force till December 31, 2023. The order is forced within 3 km of the Indo-Bangladesh border area of the Unakoti district from 6 pm to 6 am every day.

The order further states that during Section 144 no more than five people can gather together. No person shall carry weapons like sticks, bows and arrows, pointed bamboos, bicycle chains, slings, iron rods, sticks, firearms and explosives. This order will not apply to the work of police, BSF, TSR and law enforcement agencies. During Durga Puja in surrounding areas, any person having valid authorization issued by District Administration, Police, BSF and other law enforcement agencies or taking any patient to hospital or purchasing life-sustaining medicines are exempted. Violators of the law will be treated as criminals punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
