Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday attended the virtual programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi releasing the 18th instalment to farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi Yojana and said that for overall progress of the country, there is a need to develop the agriculture sector and enhance the livelihood of the farmers.Over Rs 20000 crore have been disbursed directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.4 crore beneficiary farmers through digital mode under the PM-Kisan Sanman Nidhi Yojana.Attending the virtual programme at the State Agricultural Research Center at Arundhutinagar, Agartala on Saturday, the Chief Minister Dr Saha said that after taking charge as Prime Minister in 2014, Narendra Modi has been working on various schemes for the welfare of farmers. The government is determined to improve the socio-economic conditions of farmers, he added.The Chief Minister also opined that the scheme would also help farmers in purchasing agricultural inputs. He said that the government is continuously working for the development of agriculture and farmers in the state. About 13 lakh 89 thousand farmers of the state are covered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, he said.
