Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 39th death anniversary at Congress bhavan on Tuesday. President of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Ashish Kumar Saha, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy and other leaders paid floral tribute to the portrait of Indira Gandhi.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31 by two of her bodyguards in 1984 after five months of military action at the Golden Temple as part of ‘Operation Blue Star’. She was the only female prime minister of India. She served as the prime minister of India from January 1966 to March 1977 and again from January 1980 until her assassination in October 1984. Indira Gandhi popularly known as the “Iron Lady of India” is credited for the nationalisation of banks and the abolition of privy purses of the royal families among others.

She was born on November 19, 1917 in Allahabad. She was the only child of the first Prime Minister of independent India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Meanwhile, Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress- Sadar organized a blood donation camp on the 39th death anniversary of “Iron Lady of India” Indira Gandhi.
