Tripura on Saturday remembered Rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on his Birth anniversary amidst several cultural programs. The main program was observed at Nazrul Kalakshetra.

Secretary of Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty paid floral tribute to the statue of Kazi Nazrul Islam on the occasion of his birth anniversary celebration at Nazrul Kalakshetra.

Addressing in the ceremony, Secretary of Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty urged the young generation to contribute to building a discrimination-free non-communal society by enriching them through practicing Nazrul’s works and ideals.

Nazrul geeti or songs of Nazrul, dance from his famous plays and poetry recitation were the highlight of the event, which stirred the audience and Nazrul enthusiasts. Kazi Nazrul Islam enriched all spheres of Bengali culture-literature, music, plays and films.

Not only Bengali plays and cinema, Nazrul also contributed to Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi films.

Nazrul Islam, the rebel poet of Bengali literature, was born on May 25, 1899, at Churulia in the erstwhile colonial Bengal Presidency (now in West Bengal).

Through his poems, Nazrul had inspired people to fight against injustice and repression during the British colonial rule.
