Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday inaugurated the state level observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played an important role in maintaining the unity and integrity of India.Addressing the event here at Agartala Swami Vivekananda ground on Tuesday, the Chief Minister also said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister of independent India. After the independence of the country, he played an important role in creating the Indian Federation to unite many small princely states of the country with the Union of India.Meanwhile, the state youth and sports affairs minister Tinku Roy addressed the gathering and said, “Our first identity is that we are Indians. Everyone should move forward unitedly, leaving behind violence and hatred.”MP Rajib Bhattacharya, Chief Whip of state legislative assembly Kalyani Saha Roy, MLA Antara Deb Sarkar, Chief Secretary J K Sinha, DGP (Intelligence) Anurag Dhyankar, and others were present in the programme.Later, the Chief Minister accompanied by others flagged off ‘Run for Unity’. TSR jawans, Assam Rifles jawans, NSS, athletes, students of various schools and colleges participated in the Unity Run. The Run for Unity started from Swami Vivekananda Ground and ended at the Umakanta Academy Ground.
