The Left front on Sunday called for a united fight against the ruling BJP in the ensuing bye-elections for two constituencies of the state and announced their candidates for the elections in Dhanpur and Boxanagar, to be held on September 5 next.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala Melarmath party office, the Left front convenor Narayan Kar said that Kaushik Chanda will contest from Dhanpur constituency, while Mizan Hussain will contest from Boxanagar assembly constituency. He said that the candidates will file their nomination papers on August 16 next.
He took on the ruling BJP on Sunday and said, “Since after the formation of the BJP government in Tripura political activities of the opposition parties are restricted in the two constituencies of Dhanpur and Boxanagar.”
“There is a need for a united fight against this fascistic BJP in Tripura,” he said, adding that the bye-elections will take place in the state amid crisis across the country, where democracy is at stake and attacks are brought on the constitution of this country. He also demanded the ECI to ensure elaborate security arrangements for the bye-elections.
Meanwhile, the CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Sunday said that talks were held with the Congress and the TIPRA Motha and issues regarding the restriction of splitting the anti-BJP votes and others were discussed.
“I would like to appeal to the other opposition parties including the Congress and the TIPRA Motha to support the CPI-M party and fight united against the BJP in the ensuing bye-elections with an objective to save democracy which is in stake and also to save our constitution,” he told reporters.
