The two candidates of CPI-M party today filed their nomination papers for the ensuing bye-elections for two constituencies of the state, to be held on September 5 next.

CPI-M party candidate Kaushik Chanda filed his nomination for the Dhanpur constituency, while Mizan Hussain filed his nomination for the Boxanagar assembly constituency.

The Dhanpur seat had fallen vacant following the resignation of Pratima Bhowmik within a few days of the declaration of the assembly elections results while the Boxanagar seat has fallen vacant on July 19 following the sudden death of sitting CPI (M) MLA Shamsul Haq.

Speaking to the reporters CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Choudhury said, “Since after the formation of the BJP government in Tripura political activities of the opposition parties are restricted in the two constituencies of Dhanpur and Boxanagar.”

The last date of making nomination is scheduled on August 17 next, while the last date of withdrawal of candidatures is August 21 next, he said, adding that the counting for the by-elections for two constituencies will be held on September 8.
