Tripura police arrested one person and seized 320 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 30 lakh at Naka checking Point in 41 mile area under Mungiakami police station on Wednesday late night.
The police stated that they received a crucial tip-off regarding one individual transporting a substantial quantity of cannabis (ganja) from Agartala towards Assam, on the basis of the tip-off a police team led by SDPO Teliamura Prasun Kanti Tripura along with police personnel from Mungiakami police station laid a trap and intercepted the vehicle bearing number UP 25 FT 2322 at Naka checking Point in 41 mile area under Mungiakami police station.
During a meticulous search of the vehicle, police officials found 320 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) packed in several packets. The cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 30 lakh was hidden under stacks of bamboo inside the vehicle.
The vehicle driver Nandan Kumar Patil resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh was arrested for possessing cannabis (ganja). The seized cannabis (ganja) was intended for smuggling purposes beyond Tripura’s borders, police said.
The accused driver of the vehicle was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
