In a major jolt to the Congress ahead of by election to the Boxamagar assembly constituency and also ahead of lok sabha polls, Working President of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) and former minister Billal Mia on Wednesday tendered his resignation to the President of Indian National Congress (INC).
In his resignation letter Billal Mia wrote, The Indian National Congress Party was my home for last 44 years. During this period, I have served the party under various capacities as assigned to me, to the fullest extent possible.
At present, I am the Working President of TPCC, Election Committee Member of TPCC and member of AICC. With immediate effect, I hereby resign from all the party positions/posts of Indian National Congress Party along with my primary membership, the letter reads.
It is to be mentioned here that on August 18 last, the BJP leadership held a closed-door meeting at the house of former Congress minister Billal Mia. Among the leadership of BJP were Pratima Bhowmik, Ratanlal Nath, Sushanta Chowdhury, Mayor Dipak Majumder.
According to sources, in the meeting Billal Mia was invited to join the BJP. Billal is already angry about not getting Congress ticket. Billal Mia is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 24th along with his supporters in presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other leaders.
