Ahead of the bye-polls to the Boxanagar (No-20) and Dhanpur (No-23) seats on September 5 the Election department has declared the entire Sonamura Sub-Division which comes under Sepahijala district as a high security zone. The voting process will begin at 7 a.m. tomorrow and conclude at 4 p.m. At both seats, it will largely be a bilateral fight between BJP and CPI (M) candidates.
 
BJP-nominated candidate Bindu Debnath is contesting the Dhanpur constituency, BJP-nominated candidate Tafajjal Hussain is contesting the Boxangar constituency. On the other hand from CPI-M Kaushik Chanda is contesting the Dhanpur constituency and Mizan Hussain is contesting the Boxangar constituency.

Security arrangements have been tightened throughout the area of Sonamura subdivision, while the international borders with Bangladesh have been sealed in anticipation of the elections.

A total of 110 polling stations have been set up in different areas of both constituencies to ensure a smooth polling process, while over 95,000 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the by-elections. Special arrangements have also been made for elderly voters and service voters.
