Tripura police seized 30 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 3 lakh at Khowai on Wednesday.

The police stated that they received a crucial tip-off regarding one vehicle bearing number AS01 BQ 7572 was carrying cannabis (ganja) which was coming from Agartala, on the basis of the tip-off police personnel from Khowai police station rushed to the spot and found the vehicle standing near the Belfang Naka Checking point. No one was inside the vehicle. Police brought the vehicle to the Khowai police station.

During a meticulous search of the vehicle, police officials found 30 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) packed in thirty packets were kept hidden in secret chambers inside the vehicle, said police.

Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated cannabis (ganja) in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 3 lakh.

A specific case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in this regard.

However, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called on Tripura to get rid of drugs. Police are seizing crores worth of heroin, brown sugar, cannabis (ganja) and arresting traffickers, but the real kingpins remain out of reach, which is why the state is not moving towards a drug-free state despite so many anti-drug campaigns.
