Rabindranath Tagore was a true legend and an inspiration for past generations. He is an inspiration for us and generations to come, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Sarkar while addressing in a programme on the occasion of 162nd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at Rabindrakanan on Tuesday.
The chief minister also paid tribute to Nobel laureate writer-poet Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary, citing his legacy in several fields. In his tributes to “Rabindranath Tagore”, he said, “From art to music and from education to literature, he has left an indelible mark across several areas.”
He contributed to the national anthems of India and Bangladesh. He was a dictionary in himself. His gesture of returning the knighthood after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre shows his sympathy for the people, the chief minister said.
Known to be the first Asian to win a Nobel prize, Tagore was also a playwright, composer, philosopher, painter and reformer. As per Bengali Calendar, ‘Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti’ is observed on the 25th day of the Bengali month of Baishakh, and this day is being celebrated today, May 9.
The Bengal prodigy, born in Calcutta on May 7, 1861, composed several poetic works that stand to proclaim his philosophy of life and spirituality. This year marks the 162nd birth anniversary of the versatile poet, philosopher, essayist, novelist and visionary.
