Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel did great work for the unity and integrity of the country. CM Dr. Saha paid floral tribute to the portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Addressing in a programme organized by Tripura Police on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) at Manoranjan Debbarma Smriti Stadium on Tuesday Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said his contribution to integrate around  565 princely states into the Indian Union was immense. Patel’s birth anniversary is celebrated as National Unity Day. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha administered the oath of unity to the gathering.

The Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aimed to inspire the countrymen to celebrate Sardar Patel’s birthday as National Unity Day to make the country stronger and more prosperous.

Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasised the significance of the ‘Run for Unity’ event, which takes place every year on October 31 across the nation. Since 2014, October 31 has been observed as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and on this occasion ‘Run for Unity’ is organised across the country, which is participated by people from all walks of life, he added.

He said the event is not merely a race but a powerful medium for instilling the values of unity and integrity in every citizen of the country. It fosters a deep-seated patriotism, inspiring individuals to be willing to make sacrifices for the country, he said.

The state Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, Director General of Police Amitava Ranjan along with State Security Officers were present in the programme.
