A major cancer awareness program was organized on Saturday on the second floor of Agartala Press Club on the initiative of Calcutta-based Peerless Hospital and Press Club Authority. It is BK Roy Research Centre which organized the program on behalf of Peerless Hospital, Calcutta in collaboration with Agartala Press Club.

The awareness program was inaugurated by Deputy Managing Director, Peerless Hospital Rabindra Pai, while President of the Agartala Press Club and Senior Journalist Jayanta Bhattacharjee and Assistant General Manager (Marketing), Peerless Hospital Anup Bhakta, were present. Apart from this, Peerless Hospital’s cancer specialist Dr. Shaubhanik Satpati, Dr. Abhishek Dutta and Dr. Pragati Singhal gave a speech on Cancer Awareness.

All the speakers highlighted the risk of cancer facing people with heavy alcohol consumption, heavy smoking and excessive consumption of betel leaves and nuts. The high consumption of betel leaves and nuts across the Northeast is responsible for the high incidence of throat and tongue cancer, while smoking is responsible for the increased cases of lung cancer in the region, the doctors said. Doctors said that drinking too much alcohol and consuming spicy and spicy food, especially fast food, can lead to liver and stomach cancer.

The doctors emphasized that everyone should follow high discipline in daily life and be moderate in food and drink to avoid the possibility of cancer. “Though certain types of cancer like lung, breast and throat can be cured with good treatment, provided they are diagnosed early, strict discipline in one’s eating and drinking habits to stay free from cancer risk. Karna Sabse Achcha Hai” said the three doctors.  At the end of the awareness program Agartala Press Club President Jayanta Bhattacharjee thanked Peerless Hospital and B.K.Roy Research Centre authority for organizing the program at Agartala Press in the interest of health and welfare of media persons of the State.
