Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday paid tribute to the first martyr of Bharatiya Janata Party, Tripura Pradesh, Shyamhari Sharma on his martyrdom day at BJP State Party Office.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee , Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation  Dipak Majumder, Member of Parliament (LS) Rebati Tripura and several other party leadership offered floral tributes to the late BJP leader.  

Addressing in the Remembrance Day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee said, “On November 13, 1991, BJP leader Shyamhari Sharma was assassinated by miscreants during a meeting for by-election to the Banamalipur assembly seat”.

“I bow with utmost humility to Shaheed Shyamhari Sharma, who dedicated his entire life for strengthening the BJP in Tripura”, he added.

Those who are aware of the history of the Bharatiya Janata Party in this state know that Shyamhari Sharma and his family played a role in establishing the party in this state. The conspirators of the politics brutally killed openly this ‘good man’ during election campaign. Such incident is rarer in the history of politics, said Rajib Bhattacharjee.

Shyamhari Sharma was the state BJP president in 1992. At that time, by-election had been announced in the Agartala Assembly constituency. Congress-TUJS alliance government was in the power. Shyamhari Sharma was the BJP candidate in the by-election. One evening, Shyamhari Sharma was holding a street corner meeting with party leaders and workers at Lalbahadur Chaumuhani. Suddenly miscreants attacked him. Shyamhari Sharma was shot dead in public, he added.
