Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee on Thursday on Sunday appealed to the clubs and social organisations to contribute towards combating drug menace.

Addressing a blood donation camp here at Jubak Sangha club in Agartala on Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee claimed that a significant change has come to the club culture in the state.

 “The present government is working ruthlessly against drugs taking strict actions following which many people were arrested. Clubs should collaborate with the police and government to combat this issue,” he claimed, adding that it is essential for all to join hands in eradicating the drug menace, as clubs play a crucial role in solving societal problems.

The state government is also working towards the goal of creating a drug-free Tripura. Rajib Bhattacharjee sought the cooperation from the guardians of the youths in the state in combating drug menace and its illegal trafficking and said, “Our law enforcement agencies are trying to combat the problem.”

He said everyone including the general public and social organizations also owe a duty towards the society to at least come forward and join hands to destroy the nexus and the people involved in such nefarious activities destroying the future of the young generation for the petty gains should be taken to task.

Drug abuse and its trafficking had created havoc in the society particularly damaging and destroying the young generation from whom lot of expectations of not only from the parents but also from the general masses, he added.

But for this drug abuse, the future of hundreds of young people have been dashed to ground and the Kingpins and peddlers are the instruments for bringing such destruction in the society which needs to be dealt with strong and iron hands at each level, he added.

Blood donation is the greatest donation. The way different clubs and social organizations have come forward to eliminate blood shortage in the state is highly commendable, he added.  “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”. Each unit of blood donated is separated into four major components -platelets, plasma, red blood cells and white blood cells which can be used to save four lives, he said.

“If we donate blood, it would not just help the patients but our own bodies as well. Donation of blood is like servicing one’s own system as it helps your body form new blood more often and so become more robust”. There is no alternative of blood. The demand of blood could only be met through voluntary blood donation, he said, adding that one can save a precious life by donating blood.

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation  Dipak Majumder and others were also present.
