Veteran journalist and editor of Tripura’s first daily newspaper ‘Jagaran’ Paritosh Biswas (73) breathed his last on Friday morning. He was suffering from kidney problems for a long time. He was also suffering from heart disease and liver problems. He is survived by his wife and only son Sandeep Biswas. The death of Paritosh Biswas has been mourned by all the media persons as well as political leaders like the chief minister Dr Manik Saha, Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Mayor Dipak Majumdar, State BJP President Rajiv Bhattacharya, President of Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha Tripura Pradesh Mimi Majumder. Paritosh Biswas who had originally hailed from Kulai area in Dhalai district had come to Agartala in the sixties of the last century.

Even in the face of extreme financial poverty, he never deviated from his principles. Hard work throughout his life has pushed him to face various diseases. He suffered a heart attack in 2000. At that time his chances of survival were very slim. However, by the grace of God, he survived.

Paritosh Biswas became editor of the first daily of Tripura Jagaran in 1981 and continued the position till his last breath. Jagaran was started as a daily Bengali newspaper from Tripura in October 1954.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed grief over the death of Biswas. In a condolence message, Dr. Saha said, “I am saddened to hear of the death of veteran editor Paritosh Biswas. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace, and my condolences to the bereaved family.”
