The BJP’s state Mahila Morcha President and former MLA Mimi Majumder on Wednesday said India’s Handloom sector signifies the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the country.
On the occasion of National Handlooms Day, a programme was organized by Tripura Pradesh Mahila Morcha to celebrate at Natunnagar on Wednesday. During the programme Mimi Majumder felicitated several handloom weavers.
Speaking on the occasion Mimi Majumder urged everyone to promote the country’s handloom heritage and empower the weavers, especially women. “India’s Handloom sector signifies our rich and diverse cultural heritage. In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 7 as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the Swadeshi movement that began in 1905 on the same day and to revive this ancient Indian art,” she added.
“On this 10th National Handloom Day, let us join hands to further the Modi Government’s resolve to preserve and promote our handloom heritage and empower our handloom weavers, especially women,” she added.
The National Handloom Day is celebrated on August 7 to honour the handloom weavers of India. This day recognises their invaluable contribution to the country’s socio-economic development, emphasising the importance of handloom weaving in India’s cultural and economic fabric. It promotes handloom products and encourages their use to sustain the livelihood of artisans.
