In one of its kind, a farmer of Tripura’s Gandacherra subdivision has succeeded in growing one of the costliest kinds of mango in the world. This mango, known as Miyazaki Mango, is sold in the market at the rate of lakhs of rupees per kg. Not only that the farmer has also succeeded in growing many species of other foreign mangoes such as King of Chakapat, Chiangmai, Nem Dokmai, Rangui, Banana Mango, Black Stone, ‘Hari Bhanga’, Burmese Kungjai, Katimon , Amra Palli etc. Fruit traders from different parts of the state are already flocking to Gandacherra sub-division to buy mangoes.
The farmer said that he had been passionate about cultivating fruits since his childhood. “The plants need to be taken care of like children” and if i get some support from the government then i can grow more species of foreign mangoes, the farmer mentioned.
The farmer said that if he gets some support from the government he can grow more mangoes. Gandacherra is now all set to top the state in terms of mango cultivation. If this continues Gandacherra will emerge as the major mango centre of Tripura and even in northeast with separate brands to the economic benefits of tribal farmers there.
The Miyazaki mango, considered one of the most expensive fruits in the world. The variety is rich in a number of antioxidants, beta-carotene and folic acid. The Miyazaki mango is also believed to prevent cancer, heat stroke, boost immunity and is beneficial for the skin.
