As torrential rain has hit the state of Tripura over the past 72 hours, the flood situation is worsening in Tripura where all the major rivers are flowing above the danger mark. The switch gate of the Dumboor Reservoir has been opened automatically because the capacity of the reservoir is 94 metres, when the capacity reaches its maximum level then the switch gate of the reservoir automatically lifts up to throw the excess water from the reservoir. This system was made to prevent the reservoir from overflowing. As per reports the release of water from the Dumboor reservoir switch gate has further compounded the flooding situation, as rivers and streams in the plains have swelled beyond their capacities and are flowing above the danger level. At least 10 people died, while one went missing in the state. Over 30000 families were displaced so far till Wednesday evening.According to the government report, more than 250 Quick Response Teams of SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Civil Defense Volunteers, Aapda Mitra Volunteers, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest, Power, Public Works Department, Agriculture and other line departments are deployed in the field and are carrying out relief and rescue operations including restoration as per the local needs and flood situation.A total of 330 relief camps have been opened by the District Administrations for providing shelter to over 32,750 affected persons in the State, the report stated, adding that the District Administrations have been providing necessary facilities, including food, drinking water, medical help etc. in relief camps.
