Weekend tourism hub soon around Ujjayanta Palace
To promote tourism, the state government has decided to develop a ‘weekend tourist’ hub centring the Ujjayanta Palace. This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting, said tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
The weekend tourist hub will be open on every Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 9 pm. The weekend tourist hub will have dhabas, food stalls, selfie points and boating facility for the tourists on the Rajbari lake, he said, adding that the initiative of building the weekend tourist hub will generate employment opportunities for the youths and the artists of the state.
He said that a permanent stage will be built up infront of the Palace, where the visiting tourists can enjoy the taste of various cultural programme on Saturday and Sunday of every week. The road from Lakshminarayan Bari to Rabindra Bhavan Chowmuhani and from the park in front of Ujjayanta Palace to the Jackson Gate will be declared as no-entry zone on every Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 9 pm to ease the tourists, he further added.
The Ujjayanta Palace which was built in 1862 by the erstwhile Prince Chandra Manikya houses the state museum since 2013 and is the main attraction of tourists visiting the state.
