Tripura minister for transport Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday written to the Minister of Railways Ashiwini Vishnaw and demanded to increase the number of coaches from 8/9 to 15 or 22 in all 5 (five) DEMU passenger trains presently running in the state of Tripura for the benefit of the peoples of Tripura.
In his letter Tripura minister for transport Sushanta Chowdhury stated presently 3 (three) DEMU passenger trains are running from Agartala to Sabroom and vice-versa with 8 (eight) coaches and 2 (two) numbers of DEMU passenger trains are running from Agartala to Dharmanagar and viceversa with 9 (nine) coaches. These DEMU trains, with limited number of coaches, are not sufficient to cater the increasing number of passengers and clear the extra rush that causing great hardship to the daily commuters.
There is a tremendous demand from every nooks and corner of the state for increasing number of coaches in all the DEMU passenger trains running from Agartala to Sabroom and Agartala to Dharmanagar in order to remove the inconvenience faced by the passengers. Always there is overcrowding and rush of commuters in all the DEMU passenger trains creating a lot of chaos. In such a situation, the possibilities of any untoward incident cannot be ruled out. The matter has come up during the last assembly session also and many organisations have taken out agitational programmes demanding for increasing number of coaches in DEMU passenger trains.
