Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday unveiled the statue of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Renters Society in Jogendra Nagar.

Addressing on the occasion Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the significance of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence is still relevant and it continues to serve for the growth of the nation and society.

 “It is not possible to develop or grow a society on any principle other than non-violence. The mantra of non-violence preached by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi is still relevant to us today,” Dr. Saha said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also engaged in the service of the country following Gandhi’s ideology of non-violence.

He emphasized the three principles of non-violence, satyagraha and swaraj in the freedom movement and said that Mahatma Gandhi had a vision and dream to make every village of the nation self-reliant and self-sufficient.

The Chief Minister said that Gandhiji also laid importance on sports in developing individuality by instilling a sense of discipline in people. The present government of the state is also Working for public welfare following Gandhiji’s ideology, he added.

The state Food and Civil Supplies minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul among others were present in the event.
