The much-expected Akhaura-Agartala railway line between India and Bangladesh along Tripura is likely to begin its operations from September.

Once the project is completed, new doors will also open to expansion of business between the two neighbouring countries. A new corridor will also be established for Trans Asian Railway Network and Sub-regional connectivity. As a result, the friendly relations between the two countries will strengthen.

The rail launch will open a new door of trade with India. It will reduce the cost of transporting goods. People of both countries will get the benefits.

The prime ministers of Bangladesh and India will inaugurate the railway where only cargo trains will operate initially.

The India Bangladesh Railway Connection Project will reduce travel time and distance between Agartala and Kolkata through Dhaka. After the completion of the project instead of 31 hours it will take only 10 hours and the distance will be 550 km from 1 thousand 600 kilometres.

The construction of Nishchintapur Railway Station has already been completed.  The station has been built with all the latest facilities including passengers’ seating, entertainment arrangements, food court, immigration counter and ATMs. A Rail yard is being built for loading and unloading of goods beside Nischintapur station.
