Calling for more focus on sustaining trees, Minister for Finance, Planning & Coordination, Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy on Wednesday said there was a bigger need to ensure they survive rather than simply planting them. Minister for Finance, Planning & Coordination, Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy was speaking in celebration of Vanmahotsavs-2023 at Gamaria H.S. School on Wednesday. “Don’t just plant (trees), but ensure they have a long life,” he said.
“We should plant trees on a large scale to protect earth and its environment. We should think about ways to plant more and more trees. But just planting them is not enough. Even if we plant just five or 10 of them, we should ensure their protection,” he added.
“In the blind race of development, we forget the mantra of Indian culture that nature is our mother and it cannot be exploited. This is the reason why the temperature of the earth is increasing and the climate has been badly affected. The world is afraid of climate change,” he added.
Minister for Finance, Planning & Coordination, Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy said there is only one solution to this problem, one that has been mentioned in the “Puranas” by sages, that trees are friends of mankind and only greenery can get people out of this crisis. Trees give people life-saving oxygen, help reduce carbon footprint and preserve the ozone layer, he said.
MLA of 32-Matabari Assembly Constituency Abhishek Debroy was also present.
