Tripura police arrested one person and seized 300 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 40 lakh at Naka Point on Assam -Agartala National Highway No. 8 in Churaibari on Monday.
The police stated that they received a crucial tip-off regarding one individual transporting a substantial quantity of cannabis (ganja) from Agartala towards Assam, on the basis of the tip-off a police team led by officer in charge of churaibari police station Samaresh Das along with police personnel from churaibari police station laid a trap and intercepted the vehicle bearing number CG04FD 9489 at Naka Point on Assam -Agartala National Highway No. 8 in Churaibari.
During a meticulous search of the vehicle, police officials found 300 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) packed in 43 packets. The cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 40 lakh was concealed in secret compartments inside the vehicle.
The vehicle driver Radheshyam Dubey (60) resident of Nirbhaya village of Khushi Nagar in Uttar Pradesh was arrested for possessing cannabis (ganja). The seized cannabis (ganja) was intended for smuggling purposes beyond Tripura’s borders, police said.
The accused driver of the vehicle was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. He will be produced before the court on Tuesday, said cops.
