A total of 95074 voters will cast votes for the bye-elections to two Tripura assembly constituencies of 20-Boxanagar and 23-Dhanpur to be conducted on September 5 next, said state chief electoral officer Puneet Agarwal on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here at the civil secretariat, the CEO said that the elections will be conducted at 51 polling stations at 23-Boxanagar and 59 polling stations at 23-Dhanpur assembly constituency.

“On announcement of this Bye Election, the Model Code of Conduct for the political parties, candidates and others is in force in the whole area of Sepahijala District and will be in operation till the formal declaration of result by the Returning Officer (RO),” he told reporters.

On security arrangements, the CEO said that CAPF forces will be deployed in all polling stations, while Web-Casting will be arranged inside the polling stations on the day of polling and outside polling stations will be covered by videography.

The last date of making nomination is scheduled on August 17 next, while the last date of withdrawal of candidatures is August 21 next, he said, adding that the counting for the by-elections for two constituencies will be held on September 8.

The seat of 20-Boxanagar assembly constituency was left vacant with the demise of CPI-M MLA Samsul Haque, while the MP Pratima Bhoumik had resigned from the post of MLA leaving the seat of 23-Dhanpur assembly constituency vacant.
