Tripura police arrested two persons and seized 257 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 40 lakh at Ambassa Betbagan Naka checking point on Friday.

 The police stated that they stopped a vehicle bearing number AS 02 CC 0793 which was coming from Agartala towards Ambassa at Ambassa Betbagan Naka checking. Police personnel from Ambassa Police station along with CRPF and Assam Rifles conducted a meticulous search of the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle they found 257 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) packed in 83 packets. The cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 26 lakh was concealed in secret compartments inside the vehicle. 

The vehicle driver Santosh Mandal resident of Barbhana in Bihar and the co-driver Gautam Mandal resident of Barbhana in Bihar were arrested for possessing cannabis (ganja). The seized cannabis (ganja) was intended for smuggling purposes beyond Tripura’s borders, police said.

The accused driver and co-driver of the vehicle were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic  Substances Act, 1985. They will be produced before the court on August 12, said cops.
