The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Sunday paid tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 79th birth anniversary at Congress Bhavan.
During the occasion president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Ashish Kumar Saha and Congress MLA of 6 Agartala constituency Sudip Roy Barman and other leaders paid floral tribute to the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Congress Bhavan.
Talking to the reporters, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Ashish Kumar Saha said Rajiv Gandhi, the youngest prime minister of India, brought several revolutionary changes in the country.
“In his five years as the PM, he took several visionary steps like reducing the voting age to 18 years and introducing digitalisation, which he was criticised for. He introduced the 73rd amendment related to the strengthening of the panchayati raj system,” he said.
Rajiv Gandhi always promoted communal harmony, unity, and integrity in India. He was also considered as the Ambassador of Goodwill in the rest of the World. He belonged to a modern mindset and has always seeded the idea of India being a developed nation. Rajiv Gandhi is hailed as the Father of Information Technology and Telecom Revolution of India. He is rightfully known as the architect of digital India. It was under his rule that Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) was established in August 1984 to develop state-of-the-art telecommunication technology, Ashish Kumar Saha said.
He further added, Rajiv Gandhi laid the foundation of a modern India. He left an imprint of modernity.
