Tripura celebrated the 115th birth anniversary of the state’s last ruler – Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, who is considered as the architect of modern Tripura through a series of events on Saturday across the state.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha offered floral tribute to the statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur at zero point, Agartala on Saturday. Minister for Tribal Welfare, Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Statistics Bikash Debbarma, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder and others also offered floral tribute to statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur at zero point, Agartala.
Speaking to the reporters, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the developments that took place during his period are still unimaginable in the present day. The previous governments intentionally did not highlight significance of royal family. The central and state governments along with BJP tried many things to return the honour of royal family in Tripura. Even, Agartala Airport has been renamed after Maharaja’s name”, he added.
A colourful procession was also organized by the Maharaja Bir Bikram Welfare Society, where people mostly belonging to the indigenous tribes of the state marched various roads of Agartala city and gathered in front of statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur at zero point, Agartala.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee and other leaders offered floral tribute to the portrait of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur at party’s state headquarters.
