Tripura by polls: Border with Bangladesh to be sealed from September 3rd to 5th
The Indo-Bangladesh border in Sonamura sub-division under Sepahijala district will remain sealed from 7 am on September 3, 2023 till the end of polling on September 5, 2023.
According to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, an order was issued by the District Magistrate and District Election Officer of Sepahijla district. As per the order at that time no one except BSF officers and jawans, responsible government officials, members of the security forces can cross the border of the concerned area.
Similarly, no one from Bangladesh can enter India through the Srimantapur Immigration Centre of Sonamura subdivision at that time, the order stated.
The by-elections for two Tripura assembly constituencies 20-Boxanagar and 23-Dhanpur to be conducted on September 5. The counting for the by-elections for two constituencies will be held on September 8.
The Dhanpur seat had fallen vacant following the resignation of Pratima Bhowmik within a few days of the declaration of the assembly elections results while the Boxanagar seat had fallen vacant on July 19 following the sudden death of sitting CPI (M) MLA Shamsul Haq.
