Minister for youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education and Labour Tinku Roy on Friday appealed to everyone including social organizations to contribute towards combating drug menace in Tripura.

Speaking to the reporters, on Friday at his office in the secretariat Minister for youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education and Labour Tinku Roy called upon all the clubs, social organizations, market committees of the state to participate in the ‘Nesha Mukta Tripura’ campaign in the up-coming Durga Puja Utsava.

The state government is also working towards the goal of creating a drug-free Tripura following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to create a drug-free India. The Youth Affairs and Sports department will organize a state-wide campaign to create a drug-free Tripura, the minister added.

He also urged the clubs to take up various plans to promote awareness through various awareness exhibitions like display boards, posters, flex with the theme of Puja Pandals to create drug free healthy youth society.

He said everyone including the general public and social organizations also owe a duty towards the society to at least come forward and join hands to destroy the nexus and the people involved in such nefarious activities destroying the future of the young generation for the petty gains should be taken to task.

 “The present government is working ruthlessly against drugs taking strict actions following which many people were arrested. The general public and social organizations should collaborate with the police and government to combat this issue,” he claimed, adding that it is essential for all to join hands in eradicating the drug menace in the state.

Drug abuse and its trafficking had created havoc in the society particularly damaging and destroying the young generation from whom lot of expectations of the not only from the parents but also from the general masses, he added.

But for this drug abuse, the future of hundreds of young people have been dashed to ground and the Kingpins and peddlers are the instruments for bringing such destruction in the society which needs to be dealt with strong and iron hands at each level, he added.
