In yet another major development to the ongoing Agartala-Akhaura rail link project work connecting Tripura with Bangladesh, the first trial run of goods trains was held successfully from Bangladesh’ Gangasagar to Tripura’s Nischintapur on Monday.
Briefing the media regarding the successful trial run of the goods train from Bangladesh to Tripura, the executive engineer of the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project Kulindra Chowdhury said, “This is the first trail run held with the goods train from Bangladesh has successfully rolled on the track to reach Tripura’s Nischintapur station.”
“The trial run is held through Meter Gauge section upto Nischintapur for goods train only, while it would take another two month time to roll passenger train through Broad Gauge section from Nischintapur to Agartala rail station,” he told reporters.
Regarding passenger transportation, Chowdhury said, “The completion of the remaining work, including resolving technical issues related to Broad Gauge connectivity and other tasks, may take a month or two. The inauguration of the metre gauge section for goods transportation is going to happen soon.”
He also said that a six-member delegation from Bangladesh comprising of loco pilot, co-pilot and executive engineers has come with the goods train to reach here at Nischintapur. He however said that the goods train service would be officially inaugurated soon.
Expressing his feelings before the media, the locomotive pilot Abdur Rahim said that he was very happy to be a part of the historic moment. He also said that Agartala-Akhaura rail link project work has opened new doors for the expansion of business between the two neighbouring countries.
