Katyayani Puja was observed will full devotion at Durga bari on Saturday. ‘The 3 day long puja is held every year here’, said the Priest. This non-popular Durga puja is followed especially in rural areas and it’s highly popular at there.
As per the origin of the Goddess it’s said that Devi is to destroy demon Mahishasura, Goddess Parvati took the form of Goddess Katyayani.
It was the most violent form of Goddess Parvati. In this form Goddess Parvati is also known as Warrior Goddess.
Goddess Katyayani rides on the magnificent lion and depicted with four hands. Goddess Katyayani carries lotus flower and sword in her left hands and keeps her right hands in Abhaya and Varada Mudras.
Katyayani is an aspect of Mahadevi and the slayer of the tyrannical demon Mahishasura. She is the sixth among the Navadurgas, the nine forms of Hindu goddess Durga who are worshipped during the festival of Navaratri. She is depicted with four, ten or eighteen hands. This is the second name given for Goddess Adi Parashakti in Amarakosha, the Sanskrit lexicon (Goddess Parvati names- Uma, Katyayani, Gauri, Kali, Haimavati, Ishwari).
