Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder on Monday inaugurated the two days long State level Kala Utsav organized by Samagra Shiksha Education (School) Department at Town Hall, Agartala.

Addressing in the inaugural ceremony Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder said the art-focused educational programme “Kala Utsav” has goals beyond mere promotion of arts in education by nurturing artistically-inclined students. The programme recognises the positive impact art and its myriad artistic forms have on the minds of students that might aid their academic performance, he added.

To make students connect with culture and to bring out their hidden talent, ‘Kala Utsav’ for students from Classes IX to XII of any government-aided, private, local body and Central Government schools is organised every year. Students studying in these classes display their talent at the school, district, zone, state and national-level. The idea of organising Kala Utsav is that the students will develop their interest in art and they will get to know about the culture of other nations too, he added.

Arts integration in education helps to encourage creativity develop problem solving ability and improve the ability to handle mental imagery for better expression. The “Kala Utsav” is an initiative of the ministry of Human Resource Development to promote arts in education by nurturing and giving a platform for artistic talent of school students at the secondary stage in the country, he added.
