The people of Chakma community started celebrating Biju, their age-old traditional festival that marks the beginning of a new year. The three-day festivities began with great enthusiasm on Friday, as people from the Chakma community joined in to observe this joyous occasion.A rally was organized to celebrate the festival, after the rally flowers were floated in the Ranir Pukur here in Agartala as part of the observance of Phul Biju.Biju is observed for three days – Phul Biju, Mool Biju, and Gochchepoche Biju. Friday was the first day and Phul Biju was observed. For the benefit of all living beings.On the second day of the festival, Mul Biju is held, where traditional music and dances are performed, and the world-renowned Biju dance is the prime attraction of the day.On the third and final day of Biju, called Gotche Potche Biju, is observed to honor the elderly members of the community with an elaborate feast. This day also involves the renewal of marital vows between spouses.
