Tripura declared as ‘Natural Calamity Affected Area’ as flood ravages state
In response to the devastating flood situation in Tripura, which caused havoc across the state due to the torrential rain from August 19-23, the state of Tripura is declared as “Natural Calamity Affected Area”.The decision was made during a meeting led by the Chief Secretary in the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on August 24, with the official announcement following on August 27.Considering the gravity of the situation, leading to loss of human lives and public & private properties, the State Government has decided to declare the entire state as “Natural Calamity Affected Area”.Total 32 persons have lost their lives, 2 are injured and 1 person is reported to be missing. Total 346 relief camps are operational by District Administration, providing shelter to around 52,906 persons in the State.An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by B.C. Joshi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has arrived in Tripura to assess the damage. The team has already begun on-the-spot evaluations in the severely affected South Tripura and Gomati districts, supported by the District Disaster Management Authorities.
