Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was devoted to India and Indianism. He dedicated his life to building a strong India. Dr. Mukherjee’s ideals and principles will continue to inspire every generation of the country, said Chief Minister Prof Dr. Manik Saha while addressing in a programme on the occasion of 123rd birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at Raindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Thursday.
Chief Minister Prof Dr. Manik Saha also paid floral tribute to the portrait of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. The country will always remember the sacrifices made by Dr Mukherjee for the unity and integrity of India, the chief minister added.
Dr. Mukherjee taught from his life that nothing is greater than national interest. He said we will always be indebted to Dr. Mukherjee for his immense contribution towards the unity and integrity of the country.
Speaking of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s significant role in the freedom movement as a prominent freedom fighter, great patriot and an eminent educationist, the chief minister said that he served as the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and contributed significantly to the field of education at the age of just 33. He added that Dr. Mukherjee presented an example of service to humanity during the devastating famine in Bengal before independence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying forward the legacy of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, he added.
Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was born on July 6, 1901, in Kolkata. He was a prominent Indian politician, barrister, and academician, whose role in Indian politics at the time came to play a role in shaping events in the country for years to come.
