Minister Ratan Lal Nath launches ‘Tripura Energy Vision 2030’
The state power minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday said that the government is contemplating to increase power production emphasising on clean energy. He said that the government has set a target to generate at least 135 Mega Watt (MW) of power from clean solar energy by 2025 and upto 500 MW power by 2030 next.
Nath on Thursday launched ‘Tripura Energy Vision 2030’ here at Agartala Bidyut Bhavan. He said that the government had already inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NTPC for setting up of 130-MW floating solar power plant on Dumbur Lake and the work is under process.
“There is a plan to generate clean energy in the existing 1158 gram panchayats and village councils in Tripura, with which it is believed that the power tariff will be reduced and in addition to this gas based thermal power can be made available to the industries in the state,” he said, adding that the present government had increased solar power generation to 12 MW during the last five years, which was only 6 MW till March 2018.
He said, “We are also working to find out the feasibility of laying underground power cables to ensure uninterrupted power supply especially during the monsoon season with a special emphasis on Agartala.”
The Research Triangle Institute (RTI) had made a survey of power for the state of Tripura and reported that Tripura requires at least 692 MW of power by 2030 next, he added. He said that the ‘Tripura Energy Vision 2030’ is formulated based on the survey of the RTI agency.
