Tripura police seized 8.9 grams of heroin, 588 empty containers of heroin and arrested one drug trafficker from Shankar Pally area of Amarpur town on Monday.
Acting on a tip off, a police team led by SDPO Amarpur Debanjali Ray along with Officer in charge of Birganj police station Jayanta Das raided the house of one Pintu Das resident of Shankar Pally area, sensing the presence of police Pintu Das managed to flee the spot but police managed to arrest his subordinate Bappi Debnath. During the raid police recovered 8.9 grams of heroin, 588 empty containers of heroin from Pintu Das’s house. The market value of the seized heroin will be approximately Rs. 50,000, said police.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in this regard and we have already started investigation. A hunt is on to arrest Pintu Das, said cops.
However, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called on Tripura to get rid of drugs. Police are seizing crores worth of heroin, brown sugar and arresting traffickers, but the real kingpins remain out of reach, which is why the state is not moving towards a drug-free state despite so many anti-drug campaigns.
