Forest officials seize illegal timber, saw mill
The Dharmanagar forest department officials seized two illegal saw mills and three illegal timbers in Ward No. 4 of East Phulbari Village Panchayat under Churaibari police station on Wednesday.
According to a forest official, they along with police personnel from Churaibari police station jointly raided the house of Suruj Ali, father of Mansoor Ali alias Mekai Mia in Ward No. 4 of East Phulbari Village Panchayat. During the raid forest department officials found two illegal saw mills and three illegal timbers from the house.These machines were used for cutting timber, the official added. Forest department officials were not able to arrest the two house owners.
Another forest official said that a few days ago they raided the house of Izzat Ali resident of East Phulbari Village Panchayat. During the raid they found two small illegal saw mills and two big illegal saw mills from the house.
According to a source, there are about 10-15 illegal saw mills are operating at East Phulbari Village Panchayat. But no one dares to say anything to the forest bandits as a group of corrupt forest officials and police officials have under the table connection with the forest bandits, the source added.
