Tripura Police arrested one female drug peddler and seized 73 containers of heroin worth Rs 22 thousand from Chakmaghat area on Sunday.

The police stated that they received a crucial tip-off regarding one drug peddler, on the basis of the tip-off police personnel from Teliamura police station laid a trap and arrested the female drug peddler. Police recovered 73 containers of heroin worth Rs 22 from her possession.

The arrested female drug peddler has been identified as Lakshmi Rani Debnath (50), resident of Maharajganj Bazar area of Agartala, said police.

Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated heroin in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 22 thousand. The seized heroin was intended for selling purpose in Chakmaghat area, police said.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 against the arrested drug peddler.

However, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called on Tripura to get rid of drugs. Police are seizing crores worth of heroin, brown sugar, cannabis (ganja) and arresting traffickers, but the real kingpins remain out of reach, which is why the state is not moving towards a drug-free state despite so many anti-drug campaigns.
