Buddha Purnima, the day Lord Buddha was born, was celebrated with full devotion here on Friday. On the auspicious occasion, hundreds of devotees gathered at the Buddha monastery in Agartala to light candles and offer prayers.

According to a Buddhist priest, Buddha Purnima is the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar and is celebrated on the full-moon day of Vaisakh (April – May) blessed by the birth, enlightenment and passing way of the Buddha.

Here not only Buddhist, but people from other religion also participate for the celebration, showing the enduring welfare of humanity, the priest said.

It not only marks the day when Gautam Buddha was born but also the day when he attained Nirvana under the Mahabodhi tree at Bodh Gaya.  Lord Buddha was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama on the full moon day in 563 BC at Lumbini in Nepal. In Hinduism, Buddha is considered as the ninth avatar of Lord Vishnu. His birth anniversary is also known as Vaisakhi Buddha Purnima or Vesak.

Drug abuse and its trafficking had created havoc in the society particularly damaging and destroying the young generation from whom lot of expectations of the not only from the parents but also from the general masses, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha while addressing in a programme on Nesha Mukta Tripura & Blood donation camp organized by Tripura NSS Cell at Rabindra Satabarsiki Bhavan on Wednesday.

But for this drug abuse future of hundreds of young people have been dashed to ground and the Kingpins and peddlers are the instruments for bringing such destruction in the society which needs to be dealt with strong an iron hands at each level, the Chief Minister added.

The general public also owe a duty towards the society to at least come forward and join hands to destroy the nexus and the people involved in such like nefarious activities destroying the future of the young generation for the petty gains should be taken to task, Dr. Manik Saha added.

Blood donation is a noble cause. The blood supply has become much normal in different blood banks in the state due to the spontaneous response of various social organizations and organizations for organizing voluntary blood donation camps. But blood will always be demanded. So, considering this matter, we have to continue this effort in the future, he further said.

  “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”. It takes just a few minutes to donate blood, with each unit of blood donated being used to save four lives. We can segregate blood components these days and one unit is used to save lives. Many a time blood is not easily available to people in emergency situations. People need to understand the importance of blood donation and there is no harm in donating it. Donation is the lone source of blood. So, to save life, blood needs to be donated, the chief minister added.

“If we donate blood, it would not just help the patients but our own bodies as well. Donation of blood is like servicing one’s own system as it helps your body form new blood more often and so become more robust”. There is no alternative of blood. The demand of blood could only be met through voluntary blood donation, he said, adding that one can save a precious life by donating blood.

Tripura is going to get a Central Veterinary University very soon said Minister for SC Welfare, Fishery & ARDD Sudhangshu Das while addressing in the “World veterinary day- 2023” organized by Tripura Veterinary Council at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Saturday.

The minister further said that “during his visit to New Delhi he had an official meeting with the President of Veterinary Council of India, Dr. Umesh Chandra Sharma and discussed to establish a Central Veterinary University in Tripura. Dr. Umesh Chandra Sharma and his team had assured me that a Central Veterinary University will soon be established in Tripura, the minister added.

To fulfill the mission of ‘Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura’ we all need to work together to achieve this mission of ‘Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura’, Sudhangshu added. He also appealed to all officials of the office to work towards that target.

The theme of World Veterinary Day for 2023 is ‘Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in the Veterinary Profession’. The well-being of all veterinarians is enhanced when diversity, equity, and inclusion are promoted and applied. The day is observed to mark the importance of veterinary doctors who serve to protect animals. These veterans work on improving animal lives and thus human lives.

The World Veterinary Association (WVA) established World Veterinary Day in 2000 to recognise and promote the role of veterinarians in safeguarding the health and well-being of animals, people, and the environment.

Fighting is continuing in parts of Sudan despite a 72-hour ceasefire. Explosions and gunfire could still be heard in the Capital and other cities, with warplanes in the air. Meanwhile, the Sudanese Army said, its leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, gave initial approval to a plan to extend the truce for another 72 hours and send an army envoy to the South Sudan capital, Juba, for talks.

Local media reported that there is no fuel and a lack of doctors in the country. People in Khartoum and Omdurman are finding it difficult to find clean water and food and access to cash. At least 459 people have been killed since the fighting broke out though the actual number is thought to be much higher. Earlier the World Health Organization said, it expected many more deaths due to disease, a lack of access to food and water and disruption to health facilities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid last respects to the departed leader Parkash Singh Badal, former Chief Minister of Punjab and senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal at SAD Headquarters in Chandigarh today. Mr. Badal passed away in Mohali last evening, April 25. He was 95. Mr. Badal, a five-time chief minister, was admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital on Sunday following a complaint of difficulty in breathing.

President Droupadi Murmu has also condoled the demise of the Shiromani Akali Dal leader. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has also expressed condolences on the demise of the leader. Later, his mortal remains will be taken to his native village Badal in Punjab and his last rites will be performed tomorrow afternoon. The government has declared two days of national mourning today and tomorrow.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off Kerala’s first Vande Bharat Express between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod at Thiruvananthapuram Central Station. The train will cover 11 Districts of Kerala. The Vande Bharat train between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod will cover a distance of around 588 kilometres in around eight hours. It will have stoppages at Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Thrissur, Shoranur, Kozhikode and Kannur. The Vande Bharat Express will be faster by around one hour as compared to Rajdhani running on the same route.

Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone and dedicated various projects to the nation worth more than three thousand two hundred crore rupees. Mr Modi also dedicated the Kochi water metro to the nation. This project connects ten islands around Kochi through battery-operated electric hybrid boats for seamless connectivity with Kochi city. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of Digital Science Park in Thiruvananthapuram. Digital Science Park is envisaged as a key research facility to develop digital products and services by industry and business units in collaboration with academia.

Addressing the gathering at Thiruvananthapuram, PM Modi said, the government is encouraging cooperative federalism for India’s progress and prosperity. He said, the government looks at states’ development as a step towards India’s growth. He said, when Kerala will develop then India will also grow at a faster rate. Mr Modi said, in the last nine years, the government has been working at a phenomenal speed for the connectivity infrastructure. He said, the public transport and logistics sector is being completely transformed in the country. He said, the Central government has allocated a budget of more than 10 lakh crore rupees to the development of infrastructure.

The Prime Minister said, the country is progressing at a speed and scale that is unprecedented. He said, during the global crisis, the world looks at India as a vibrant spot of growth. Prime Minister credited the trust shown by the world towards India to a decisive government at the center that takes quick and firm decisions for the welfare of the country.

The Prime Minister said, equipped with modern facilities, the Vande Bharat train will give a great experience of travelling at high speed without harming the environment. He said, Vande Bharat Express is the identity of aspirational India. Prime Minister said, all the Vande Bharat trains are connecting places of cultural, spiritual and tourism importance.  He said, Kerala’s first Vande Bharat train will link North Kerala with South Kerala. The train will ease travel to places of pilgrimage like Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur. Mr Modi said, Vande Bharat Express is Made in India, and the Metro that is expanding today is also Made in India. Mr Modi said, investment in connectivity connects various cultures and every citizen is able to use these facilities. He said, this signifies the success of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. 

Prime Minister said, along with physical connectivity, digital connectivity is also important. He said, projects like digital science park will give an expansion to Digital India.
