Minister of SC Welfare,Fishery & ARDD Department Sudhangshu Das chaired a review meeting organized by Tapshili Nation Welfare Department, Animal Resources Development Department and  Fisheries Department at Circuit House Conference Hall in Belonia on Friday.

In the review meeting Minister of SC Welfare, Fishery & ARDD Department Sudhangshu Das has directed the concerned government officials to increase the  production of fish, eggs, milk, meat in South Tripura district to make the district self dependent.

New Caledonia lifted its tsunami warning to citizens after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck on Friday in the Pacific Ocean southeast of the territory.

The quake was detected some 340 kilometres east of Vao city in New Caledonia, a French Pacific territory, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

In New Caledonia, the police had evacuated the coast and tsunami sirens had been activated.

Tsunami waves of one-to-three metres (six-to-nine feet) above tide are possible along some coastal areas of Vanuatu, according to the Honolulu-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

In Vanuatu, waves of just under half a metre above tide level were reported at Lenakel, while slightly smaller waves were observed or predicted for several other islands, the Honolulu-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

The Supreme Court has put a stay on the West Bengal government’s order to ban the screening of the film ‘The Kerala Story’ in the state. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud said it is the duty of the state government to maintain law and order as the film has been granted certification by the Central Board of Film Certification. The bench said, the prohibition order by the West Bengal government is not tenable.

The apex court said, fundamental right to free speech can’t be made dependent on public display of emotions. The court said legal provision cannot be used to put a premium on public intolerance. It said additional security can be provided for every cinema hall screening the movie and requisite arrangements can be made for moviegoers who want to see the film.

 With regard to Tamil Nadu, the top court said, no steps shall be taken by the state or its officers or instrumentalities including police to prevent the screening of The Kerala Story. While West Bengal had banned the movie after three days of its screening in theatres, Tamil Nadu has not banned the film but the exhibitors have withdrawn from cinema halls owing to security concerns.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on a three-nation tour of Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia this morning. On the first leg of his tour, PM Modi will attend G7 Summit in Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Briefing media in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said the G7 Summit has chosen several key priorities for the current Presidency.

The broad terms of the G7 Summit preferences include nuclear disarmament, economic resilience and security, regional issues, climate and energy, food and health and development. There are other priorities also such as digitisation and science and technology which will be highlighted during several sessions at the Summit.

Foreign Secretary said India’s participation at the Summit in Hiroshima would be structured around three formal sessions. Two sessions would be held on 20th of May and the third one will be held on the 21st. The first session relates to food, health, development, and gender equality. The second session is on climate, energy and environment. The third session is titled “Towards peaceful, stable and prosperous world”.

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral discussions with several leaders of the G7. Japan has also invited Autralia, Brazil, Comorros, Cook Islands, Indonesia, South Korea, and Vietnam and some of international organisations including the UN. Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his Japanese counterpart and unveil a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima. Foreign Secretary said that a QUAD leaders meeting is being planned in Hiroshima with leaders of all QUAD nations.

Foreign Secretary said India’s regular participation at the G7 Summits clearly points to increasing recognition that India should be a part of any serious effort to resolve global challenges, including those of peace, security, development and environment preservation. He added that this is more salient in the context of India’s ongoing presidency of G20 and India’s efforts to priorities interests and concerns of fellow countries of Global South.

On the second leg of his visit, Prime Minister will reach Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea on the evening of 21st May. He will jointly host the third Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation with his Papua New Guinea counterpart James Marape the following day. The FIPIC involves India and fourteen Pacific Island Countries. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Papua New Guinea.

Prime Minister Modi will have bilateral engagements in Papua New Guinea, including meetings with Governor-General Bob Dadae and Prime Minister James Marape. He will also hold bilateral engagement with Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.

On the same day, PM Modi will travel to Sydney in Australia on 22nd May. He will hold bilateral meeting with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese on 24th May. Prime Minister is also expected to call on Governor General David Hurley. PM Modi will also interact with Australian CEOs and business leaders, and address the Indian diaspora at a community event in Sydney on 23rd May. Australian Prime Minister is also expected to join PM Modi at this event.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today formally inaugurated the spices distribution programme through ration shops at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.

Addressing in the programme Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that from now on, the state government will supply packed powder spices such as chillies, turmeric, cumin and coriander through subsidy ration shops. A new feather added to the public distribution system of the state, he added.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , our government is committed to strengthening the mass distribution system, and delivering daily essential commodities to the last person in the society at subsidy, he added.

The need of the hour is to shun the usage of plastic and adopt alternative solutions said Minister for Finance, Planning and Coordination, Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy while addressing in a workshop on reduction of single use plastic organized by Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan supported by Tripura State Pollution Control Board at Muktadhara Auditorium on Tuesday.

Minister for Finance, Planning and Coordination, Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy shared that though we are aware of the ill effects of single use plastics but we are not being able to do enough to avoid their ill effects. Single-use plastics are typically items that are discarded after being used only once and do not go through the recycling process. Heavy usage of plastics across the world has caused quite a lot of menace, governments and various global regulatory bodies are trying hard to arrest it, he added.

This plastic pollution is not only harming marine life but also entering our food chain and our bloodstream posing a significant threat to human health. Conventional plastics break down into micro and nano plastics quickly which stay in our biological cycles for thousands of years. They often end up in landfills or are leaked in the environment, finding their way into the oceans, he mentioned.

The Indian government introduced the Plastic Waste Management Rules provide a world-leading vision that can help combat this global crisis. India has banned the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of identified single-use plastic items, which have low utility and high littering potential, all across the country from July 1, 2022. The ban on the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of identified single-use plastic items, which have low utility and high littering potential, has come into force from July 1.The list of banned items includes – earbuds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice-cream sticks, polystyrene (thermocol) for decoration, plastic plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron, stirrers, the minister said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducting searches at RJD Rajya Sabha MP Prem Chand Gupta’s Delhi residence and RJD MLA Kiran Devi’s Patna residence in connection with the land for job scam. The probe agency is conducting searches at 9 locations including Patna and Bhojpur in Bihar, Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida.

The premises being searched in Delhi are linked to Prem Chand Gupta, while places in Bihar are related to Kiran Devi and Kiran Devi’s husband and former RJD MLA Arun Yadav. CBI’s simultaneous raids are underway at the locations of the close aide of RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. It is alleged that the land for jobs scam is related to the tenure of the then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav during 2004 – 2009 in the erstwhile UPA regime.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today distributed about 71 thousand appointment letters to newly inducted recruits through video conferencing today. The Rozgar Mela was held at 45 locations across the country. On the occasion, while addressing the new appointees, the Prime Minister said that Rozgar Mela is the government’s endeavour to empower the youth and strengthen their participation in national development. He said such Rojgar Mela reflects the government’s commitment towards the youth.

He said, in the last nine years, the government has given utmost priority to make the government’s recruitment process more transparent and fair. The recruitments are taking place across Central Government Departments as well as State Governments and Union Territories. The new recruits, selected from across the country, will join various positions and posts like Gramin Dak Sevaks, Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk, Junior clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Accounts Clerk, Assistant Section Officer, Tax Assistants, Inspectors, Nursing Officers, Principal, Assistant Professor, among others.

 The Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfilment of the commitment of the Prime Minister to accord the highest priority to employment generation. The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst in further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and participation in national development. The newly inducted appointees will also get an opportunity to train themselves through Karmayogi Prarambh, which is an online orientation course for all new appointees in various Government departments.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today chaired a high level review meeting for the management of extremely severe cyclonic storm “Mocha” in which Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Special Secretary Disaster Management A.K. Bhattacharya, SPO-Disaster management Dr. Sarat Kumar Das and Director of IMD Agartala Nahush Kulkarni were present.

According to an official press note “MOCHA’ is now Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm over the East central Bay of Bengal moved nearly northeast wards with a speed of 14 kmph during past 06 hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today over the same region about 560 km north-northwest of Port Blair, 680 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and 600 km southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar).

It is very likely to move north-northeast wards and cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar), close to Sittwe (Myanmar) around noon of 14th May, 2023 as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 150-160 kmph gusting to 175 kmph.

In Tripura it is forecasted that Rainfall at most places with Heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely on 13 May and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on 14 May. Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is very likely to prevail on 14 May. Orange warning (Alert, be prepared) issued to South Tripura, Gomati, Dhalai and North Tripura districts and Yellow warning (Watch) to remaining five districts by IMD.
