TripuraheraldThe BJP’s state Mahila Morcha President and former MLA Mimi Majumder on Wednesday said India’s Handloom sector signifies the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the country.
On the occasion of National Handlooms Day, a programme was organized by Tripura Pradesh Mahila Morcha to celebrate at Natunnagar on Wednesday. During the programme Mimi Majumder felicitated several handloom weavers.
Speaking on the occasion Mimi Majumder urged everyone to promote the country’s handloom heritage and empower the weavers, especially women. “India’s Handloom sector signifies our rich and diverse cultural heritage. In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 7 as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the Swadeshi movement that began in 1905 on the same day and to revive this ancient Indian art,” she added.
“On this 10th National Handloom Day, let us join hands to further the Modi Government’s resolve to preserve and promote our handloom heritage and empower our handloom weavers, especially women,” she added.
The National Handloom Day is celebrated on August 7 to honour the handloom weavers of India. This day recognises their invaluable contribution to the country’s socio-economic development, emphasising the importance of handloom weaving in India’s cultural and economic fabric. It promotes handloom products and encourages their use to sustain the livelihood of artisans.

TripuraheraldChief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday visited the State Load Dispatch Centre here at Agartala 79 Tilla and said that the government has a plan to extend underground power cable here in the capital town of Agartala as part of its pilot project.During the visit, the Chief Minister Dr Saha was briefed in detail about the overall power supply and supply management in the state. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath accompanied the Chief Minister in the visit.The State Load Dispatch Center is constantly monitoring the power generation, transmission and distribution companies of the state to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the power consumers, Dr Saha said, adding that the Central Government has awarded ISO certificate to State Load Dispatch Centers in the State for meeting cyber security norms, which is significant for the state.He said that Tripura is the only state in the North Eastern region where electricity is supplied to the neighboring country Bangladesh. The government continues to make efforts to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the electricity consumers of the state, he added.The Chief Minister said that the government has also taken initiatives to change the old power transmission lines in the state. He further added that the use of solar energy as an alternative source of electricity is also being encouraged.

The officer in-charge of the GRP station at Agartala Tapas Das informed they received a tip off, accordingly a joint operations was laid by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Police personnel from Amtali police station and Border Security Force (BSF) at Madhya Charipara area. The Indian tout was arrested from Madhya Charipara area. The arrested Indian tout has been identified as Rupan Mia. He was wanted in connection to a case at the GRP station for facilitating Bangladeshi infiltrators to illegally cross the border and travel to other states, said the cop.
We launched a hunt to track down the ‘Agents’ who are facilitating the infiltration of the people from Bangladesh. The agents locally known as ‘Linemen’ are active in specific border areas marked for the intrusion from across the border. The places are fenced and guarded, but the ‘Linemen’ have the access and the ability to transfer the people through safe corridors in lieu of money. Most of the infiltration bids occurred during the night and the Agents arranged ladders on both sides of the fencing to smuggle men and women who pay for the service, said the cop.

The police stated that, they received a information on the basis of the information police personnel from Madhupur police station stopped a vehicle bearing number TR 07A0343 at Madhupur. During the search of the vehicle police officials found around 500 liters of country-made liquor hidden inside the vehicle. Police arrested two persons who were in the vehicle. The arrested persons have been identified as Samir Sarkar and Uttam Dutta. The vehicle has been also seized. They will be produced before the court, said police.
Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated country-made liquor in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 70,000.

TripuraheraldThe state tourism and transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday demanded the union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for a double-line track connecting Assam with Sabroom in South Tripura district.
In his letter to the Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday, Sushanta stated, “Currently, the track from Lumding to Sabroom is a single line, which causes delays for both express and local trains. This setup prevents us from running more trains or introducing new services. On 23-05-2022, the Chief Minister of Tripura requested the Union Minister of Railways through a DO letter for extending active support to address this issue.”
“Recently, the North Eastern Frontier Railways informed us that the Final Location Survey (FLS) for doubling the track from Chandranathpur (in Assam) to Agartala is in progress,” he stated in his letter to the Union Minister.
He further stated, “The Agartala-Sabroom rail line is also very important for trade and connectivity with other North Eastern states and Bangladesh. I urge your Ministry to prioritize the double-line rail track of the Agartala-Sabroom railway project too.”
“I would request you to kindly instruct the concerned officers of your ministry to complete the Final Location Survey (FLS) of the Agartala-Sabroom rail line at the same time and start double line rail track work in this route along with the Chandranathpur (in Assam) to Agartala rail track as soon as possible. Your support will greatly help us to meet our development goals and the needs of the people of Tripura,” the letter reads.

TripuraheraldTripura Police arrested eight Bangladeshi nationals including two children from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala on Wednesday. The detained Bangladeshi nationals were identified by the police as Lucky Akhtar, Seema Khara, Mohammad Sohagi Akhtar, Rehena Sheikh, Fatema Aktar.
The police stated that they received information, on the basis of the information police personnel from Agartala Airport Police Station rushed to the spot and detained them.
After the preliminary investigation, they admitted that they entered into the Indian territory in Tripura by illegally crossing the Narayan border with the help of Indian Linemen for which they paid Rs 12000 of Bangladesh currency for each. The Indian Linemen namely Bimal also provided them fake Indian identity cards and Aadhar cards in exchange of Rs 1000 of Bangladesh currency per card, said police.

TripuraheraldIn yet another significant development to the anti-drug drive, the Agartala GR Police jointly with the RPF on Tuesday detained two people with 28 kilograms of dry cannabis from their four bags from Agartala Railway station.
The officer in-charge of the GRP station at Agartala Tapas Das informed they received a tip off, on the basis of the tip off police of GRP and Railway Protection Force laid a trap and arrested two people with 28 kilograms of dry cannabis from their four bags while they were trying to board the Agartala Silchar train.
Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated marijuana (ganja) in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 3 lakh.
After the preliminary investigation, the arrested people said that the seized marijuana (ganja) was intended for smuggling purpose, the cop said.

Secretary of the state home department P K Chakraborty, DGP, Intelligence Anurag, Chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women Jharna Debbarma, secretaries of various departments of the state government, Joint Secretary (Diaspora Engagement) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Draksha Banerjee, Regional Passport Officer Ashish Midda, External Affairs Ministry Undersecretary Rusal Garg and other officials of the Government of India were present and participated in the event.
The event featured in-depth dialogue to enhance awareness among stakeholders and officials of the State Government about the Ministry’s programmes, schemes and initiatives with regard to consular, passport and diaspora issues to provide safe and legal migration. A new initiative featured presentations on trade and investment issues.
The Joint Secretary (Diaspora Engagement) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Draksha Banerjee said that this event is being organized since 2017 to bring the Union Ministry of External Affairs on the same platform with the administration of each state of the country. This awareness program is organized to assist the state government in providing necessary facilities, consular services and preventing infiltration to Indians living, working and studying abroad, he added.
He said that currently there are about 3.5 million Indians staying abroad and most of them are in the United States. The United Arab Emirates has the largest number of Middle Eastern countries. He also discussed in detail how the Union Ministry of External Affairs supports and provides various facilities to Indian students working abroad and studying abroad.
Interacting with reporters after the event, Union Joint Secretary Dharana Banerjee said that the present central government is completely trying to prevent illegal infiltration. In this case, the state and central government have to work as a coalition. The Secretary of the State Department of Home Affairs P K Chakraborty briefed the representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs about Rohingya infiltration into the state and other issues.
