TripuraheraldCalling for more focus on sustaining trees, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee on Thursday said there was a bigger need to ensure they survive rather than simply planting them. Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee was speaking in a tree plantation drive organized by Aim foundation (Welfare Trust) Tripura chapter at MBB College on Thursday. “Don’t just plant (trees), but ensure they have a long life,” he said.
“We should plant trees on a large scale to protect earth and its environment. We should think about ways to plant more and more trees. But just planting them is not enough. Even if we plant just five or 10 of them, we should ensure their protection,” he added.
“In the blind race of development, we forget the mantra of Indian culture that nature is our mother and it cannot be exploited. This is the reason why the temperature of the earth is increasing and the climate has been badly affected. The world is afraid of climate change,” he added.
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) State President Rajib Bhattacharjee said there is only one solution to this problem, one that has been mentioned in the “Puranas” by sages, that trees are friends of mankind and only greenery can get people out of this crisis. Trees give people life-saving oxygen, help reduce carbon footprint and preserve the ozone layer, he said.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder and others were present in the tree plantation drive.
