TripuraheraldAiming to generate more eco-friendly power, the Tripura government is ready to expand the gas based thermal power project in Rokhia under Sepahijala district under the “Capacity Augmentation” system.
In view of this the state power minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday met the union minister of forest and environment Bhupendra Yadav in Delhi to discuss the possibility of clearance of the Pollution Control Board for the expansion project work.
“We are hoping that within the next few months, we will be able to start a new journey with the Rokhia thermal power project after all the complications are removed,” Nath said in social media handle.
He further said, “Once we get the clearance from the pollution control board, Rokhia’s current 63 MW power generation will be increased to 120 MW with the expansion of the project.”
Earlier, the Managing Director of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) said that the setting up of 120 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant would be funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under 80:20 ratio.

TripuraheraldIn a major operation, Tripura Police arrested two drug peddlers and seized six kilograms of cannabis (ganja) and 195 yaba tablets from Dharmanagar’s Durgapur area on Monday mid-night.
Acting on a tip-off police personnel from Dharmanagar police station raided the house of Jamshed Ali (Haroon) (32) resident of Dharmanagar’s Durgapur area. During the raid police found six kilograms of cannabis (ganja) packed in two packets, 195 yaba tablets, Rs 35 thousand cash, two mobile phones and a motor bike bearing number TR 05 C 5143 from his possession. Police arrested Jamshed Ali (Haroon) (32) and his subordinate Babul Uddin (25) resident of North Phulbari area of Churaibari under Churaibari police station for possessing the narcotics substances.
Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated cannabis (ganja) and yaba tablets in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 3 lakh. The seized cannabis (ganja) and yaba tablets were intended for smuggling purposes beyond Tripura’s borders, police said.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the arrested drug peddlers.
However, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called on Tripura to get rid of drugs. Police are seizing crores worth of heroin, brown sugar, cannabis (ganja) and arresting traffickers, but the real kingpins remain out of reach, which is why the state is not moving towards a drug-free state despite so many anti-drug campaigns.

TripuraheraldIn a major setback to Trinamool Congress (TMC) ahead of Lok Sabha polls 2024, Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress president Pijush Kanti Biswas on Tuesday tendered his resignation citing personal problems.
“I do hereby tender my resignation from the post of President, Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee and its primary membership. Kindly accept the same,” read the letter signed by Biswas addressed to All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) chief Mamata Banerjee.
He also expressed his gratitude to the party supremo and general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for appointing him as party president.
He said that he was not being able to give time for party work for the last few months due to some of my personal problems. So it is not well to occupy the post of Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress president without working for the party, he added.

TripuraheraldChief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha chaired a high-level meeting on July 24 to prepare for the campaign program titled ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’. Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests KS Shetty, Principal Secretaries of various departments, Secretaries and other high-ranking officers were present in this meeting held in the meeting room No. 2 of the state Secretariat. The ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ program will begin from August 9 in Tripura.
In the meeting, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said that various programs have been successfully implemented in the state from time to time as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrita Mohotsav’. Tripura ranks first in the country in implementation of Har Ghar Tiranga programme. He expressed hope that the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ program will also be successfully implemented in the state with the combined efforts of all. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working towards the development of the country as well as taking the country forward with patriotic thoughts. The Chief Minister hoped that the stakeholders would take a strong role in keeping the reputation of the state intact throughout the country through the successful implementation of the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ program in the state.
In the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign will begin in the state from August 9 to August 15. Advance preparations of various concerned departments for successful implementation of this program are going on. He also emphasized on the wide publicity of this campaign. In the meeting, there was a virtual exchange of views with the District Magistrate of all the 8 districts of the state.
In the meeting, the secretary of the Department of Information and Culture highlighted the outline of the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign. PK Chakraborty said that ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ program has been taken as part of the concluding program of Azadi Ka Amrita Mohotsav. In this program soil will be collected from all the panchayats of the country and will be brought to Delhi by road to pay tribute to the heroes. Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav Memorial and Amrit Bhatika will be constructed there. He said, the main subject of this campaign is ‘soil’.

While tendering his resignation with the party president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Barman underlined the party’s principle of One man-One post and stated, “As the party endorses the ‘one man, one post’ principle, it will not be wise for me to retain two posts. Therefore, as a soldier of the party, I want to quit as the general secretary.”
Barman, who was engaged in organisational work in West Bengal for a considerable time, contested from 21-Nalchar constituency in the 2023 assembly elections and was elected as an MLA. He was made the party general secretary for Tripura in July 2021.
“I think it is the right time to quit the party post and concentrate on the welfare of the people who elected me,” he said.

Addressing in the programme minister for youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Educationand Labour Tinku Roy said everyone, including health workers, must get involved in the antibiotic resistance campaign and urged the public to be cautious when patronizing antibiotics and to seek advice from health professionals for appropriate action.
He said antibiotic resistance had come about due to many complicated factors and needed to be tackled holistically.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2050 antimicrobial resistance is expected to be the first cause of death, creating more causalities than cancer and diabetes combined.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said that the earthquake occurred at 3:34 pm at a depth of 31km.

Our main priority is to solve the basic problems of common people, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha while addressing in a Blood Donation Camp organized by Association of Service Engineers of Tripura (ASSET) at Sukanta Academy on Sunday.
The present State Govt is giving equal importance to urban & rural development. The Engineers play a major role in this development journey, he added. He also thanked the Association of Service Engineers of Tripura (ASSET) for donating Rs. 1 lakh to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The Chief Minister said, “I want to appeal to the people of our state to cooperate with the government. Our government is a pro-people government. Our main aim is to how we can help people and how they can be benefitted. Our government is working to provide all kinds of benefits to people and keeping a close eye on their problems. Our main priority is to solve the basic problems of common people”.
He said the BJP’s double-engine government at the Centre and in the State is gradually turning Tripura into a “trade gateway and logistics hub” of northeast India. Tripura has progressed a lot, including infrastructure development, good governance and other services, since 2018 when the BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) government came to power in the state. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha pointed out that much development has taken place in the state in the areas of highways, railways and digitisation. A lot of development has also taken place in the areas of digitisation and railway connectivity, he said.

Each unit of blood donated is separated into four major components -platelets, plasma, red blood cells and white blood cells which can be used to save four lives. We can segregate blood components these days and one unit is used to save lives, he added.
Blood donation is a noble cause. The blood supply has become much normal in different blood banks in the state due to the spontaneous response of various social organizations and organizations for organizing voluntary blood donation camps. But blood will always be demanded. So, considering this matter, we have to continue this effort in the future, he further said.
